Day 30 (14 October 1969) – MUNICH: I’d been to Munich in 1963 and had very much enjoyed my time in the city. In 1969, however, things were very different. As I recorded in my diary, “Much of the charm and beauty of central Munch has disappeared behind a façade of road works, improvement schemes, and the building of an underground railway right through the city centre – all, of course, in preparation for the Olympic Games in 1972.”
