Day 50 (3 November 1969) – TOURS: Heather and I spent three nights in Tours, staying with M. and Mme. Rainer, friends that my father and his mother first met in Brittany in 1926. As a result, we split up with Lyn (who returned to England separately while we took some of her luggage back with us in our car). On 3 November we saw some of the sights of Tours, including Place Plumerau, “famous for its stunning 15th-century half-timbered houses.” On 3 November, we also notched up a notable milestone: we had driven exactly 5,000 miles in 50 days. It’s little wonder, then, that I noted in my diary that we were “exhausted”! |
