
Granite Peak was the fourth US state highpoint I’d climbed. (The first three were Denali / Mt McKinley, Alaska, in July 1997; Eagle Mountain, Minnesota, in November 2004; and Gannett Peak, Wyoming, exactly eight days before I got to the top of Granite Peak.) I was delighted: my gambit of tackling the second- and third-hardest highpoints on one trip to the United States had succeeded. |
