 We reached the top of Guadalupe Peak at 9.45 am. The 3,000-foot ascent had taken me two-and-a-half hours, which – given the well-known yardstick of climbing a thousand feet an hour – meant that so far as I was concerned we had gone up the mountain at a pleasing pace. |
