An attempt on Lobuje East, 1991

Monday, 7 October 1991 – From Junbesi to Manidingma: When we arrived in Manidingma at 5:15 pm, our tents were pitched, ready and waiting for us. However, for the third evening in a row, it began to rain shortly after we arrived, and on this occasion the rain was especially heavy. As I noted in my diary, “soon the path through the village was a small stream.” As a result, seven of us jumped ship, so to speak, and spent the night in the Thamserku Guest House, which is pictured here. Only Diane and Geoff chose to spend the night in their tents. As it cost us only 10 rupees apiece (the equivalent of 40 New Zealand cents), staying in this lodge was both highly sensible and ridiculously cheap.
