Sunday, 13 October 1991 – From Namche Bazar to Kyangjuma: It was Heather’s birthday. I had hoped to be able to ring her before we left Namche Bazar, but that wasn’t possible. However, Heather has a collection of smooth, carved wooden and stone eggs, so I was delighted to find and – “after some haggling and a lot of dithering on my part” (to quote my diary) – buy this intricate carving of a bird inside a stone egg as a birthday present for Heather. |
