An attempt on Lobuje East, 1991 |
 Wednesday, 30 October 1991 – From Lukla to Kathmandu: We had to be ready by 8:30 am and prepared to get on a plane at a moment’s notice. After that – as I recorded in my diary – “all we could do was wait … wait … and wait …”, which is what Rod, Geoff (in the front), and Diane were doing when I took this photograph of them sitting on the steps of the Hotel Sagarmatha. We had drawn lots to determine the order in which we would get on a flight. Jon won first position, followed by Diane, Rod, Geoff, Eric, Mike, me, and Ralph. |
