 Thursday, 31 October 1991 – Bhaktapur: The two guards at the foot of the Nyatapola temple (one of whom is the closest figure to the camera) are reputed to have the strength of ten men, but the elephants above them are ten times stronger than the guards. The lions on the third level are ten times stronger than the elephants, and the griffins above them are ten times stronger than the lions. Finally, ten times stronger than the griffins, the demigoddesses on the fifth level are the ultimate guardians of the entrance to the inner sanctum of the temple. |
