However, the weather forecast was not encouraging: the immediate outlook was for snow and 70 kilometre-per-hour winds. Sadly, the forecast was accurate and, as a result, few people left the hut at 3:00 am. Those that did soon returned. The weather at 5:00 am was still bad. By 8:00 am, however, the weather had taken a distinct turn for the better. Caroline Ogden made a brilliant, quick decision: she booked an extra night in the hut for the three of us and said we’d do a daytime climb.
