Mt Magazine, Arkansas

In April 2014, I visited Arkansas for the first time. However, I had been aware of the state’s existence for a long time before that. As a 13-year-old, I followed what – almost 60 years later – is still known as the Little Rock crisis; as a university student I bought and eagerly read Senator William Fulbright’s book, The Arrogance of Power (what is more, I also owe a large debt of indirect gratitude to Senator Fulbright because my son was a Fulbright Scholar in 2000 and I was a Fulbright Fellow in 2001); and as a political scientist I followed the highs and lows of William Jefferson Clinton’s career with considerable interest.
