The Routeburn Track |
 Almost level hiking ended when the Routeburn Track doubles back on itself and suddenly drops down via a large zigzag to Lake Mackenzie. This is a view looking down onto the Department of Conservation’s (DoC’s) Lake Mackenzie Hut complex, which is next both to the bush and to the lake shore. A short walk through a clearing leads to another set of huts which can be seen near the right-hand edge of the photograph. These huts are for private, guided walkers on the Routeburn Track. Some of the peaks in the Ailsa range tower above both sets of huts. |
