The Routeburn Track |
 The Lake Mackenzie Hut, which we reached at 4:30 pm – seven-and-three-quarter hours after leaving the Routeburn Falls Hut. The Department of Conservation lists the distance from the Routeburn Falls Hut to the Lake Mackenzie Hut as 11.3 kilometres / 7.0 miles – but that doesn’t include the detour we made up and down Conical Hill. By way of contrast, Evan had made very quick progress on his two-days-compressed-into-one hike: he left a message in the Lake Mackenzie Hut log book to say he’d stopped at it for “elevenses”! |
