Taum Sauk Mountain

A short while later, I drove past this fire truck and a suspicion I’d had was confirmed – namely, that the forest-fire I had just seen and the fire that had recently occurred along the trails I’d taken to get to the top of Taum Sauk Mountain and to the Mina Sauk Falls were controlled burn-offs. Fire management programmes like this are common in the southern United States, partly as way of reducing the likelihood of large forest fires being caused by lightning strikes … and having solved that burning question, I can now end this album. (This is the last picture in this album.)
