Thirteen Formative Years |
 LIVING IN JOHANNESBURG – 27, 12th Avenue, Parktown North: In May 1951, Bobby and Lilian sold their house in Birnam and bought one in Parktown North, another of Johannesburg’s northern suburbs. In September 2019, I took this photograph of the 3rd and 7th Avenues’ intersection, which was probably the most significant junction in the suburb. Diagonally opposite the Parktown North sign, the building with the distinctive third-floor red corner-frames stands on the site of Mr Sofianos’ grocery store, where Lilian had a standing account, which meant that Stuart and I could buy things there simply by putting them on the family “tab”. |
