80 years in 80 photographs

1947 to 1948
In April 1947, Bobby and Lilian, my older brother Anthony, my younger brother Stuart, and I left London and moved to Utrecht, the fourth largest city in the Netherlands. We lived in Kromme Nieuwegracht 41 for 18 months while Bobby taught anaesthesia to Dutch doctors. I have no memories of the first three years of my life which were spent in England; all my earliest memories stem from the time we lived in Holland. Nineteen years after we left Utrecht, I went back there for the first time and took this photograph of Heather standing in front of the apartments in Kromme Nieuwegracht (which, incidentally, is Dutch for ‘Crooked New-canal’).
