1988
Neville Richardson was my closest high school friend at the Methodist boys’ boarding school, St Stithians College in Johannesburg, that I went to from 1959 to 1961. After we finished school, we went our separate but similar ways. We both became academics, and we both had our first (and, in my case, only) child in 1975. We were able to get together for the first time since December 1961 when I went to an academic conference in North America in May 1988 while Neville (who taught at the University of Natal in South Africa) was spending a year as a visiting professor in Lexington, Virginia. |
