1991
I spent five-and-a-half weeks in Nepal in 1991, the bulk of the time as part of a nine-member expedition that tried to climb Lobuje East, a 6,119 m / 20,075 ft peak that’s not far from Mt Everest in the Khumbu region. We failed to reach the summit of the mountain, but had a wonderful and very interesting time. This photo of four of us – from left to right, me, Eric Hodge, Dave Little, and Ralph Baulis – was taken on 16 October 1991 on the summit of a small peak behind Machhermo. Eric and I teamed up as climbing partners, and between 1993 and 2016 we climbed more than 20 mountains together in Australia, Europe, New Zealand, and the United States. |
