80 years in 80 photographs

2001
David Novitz was probably the best male friend I’ll ever have had. We met as young lecturers (he in philosophy, me in political science) at the University of Canterbury in the early 1970s. We had South African backgrounds in common, we had a shared sense of humour, and we both thoroughly enjoyed the work we did as university teachers and researchers. This picture of us was taken in Thessaloniki in late August 2001, when I went to Greece with David to attend his daughter Tonia’s wedding. Sadly, David died of multiple myeloma less than four months later.
