80 years in 80 photographs

2006
On 31 December 2005, I flew to Tasmania in order to cycle from Hobart to Coles Bay. This photograph was taken of me in front of Richmond’s historic bridge on 2 January 2006, at the end of my first day’s ride. I was carrying a very special cargo in the bike’s pannier bags – namely, my father’s ashes. After I’d been cycling for three days, my brother Stuart met me in Swansea, and the two of us scattered Bobby’s ashes at Spiky Beach, which is where we’d also scattered our mother Lilian’s ashes two years earlier. Lilian had died on 1 January 2003 aged 90, while Bobby died on 2 February 2005 aged 94.
