 2012 I spent two weeks at the Olympic Games in London in August 2012. I went to ten different events, including athletics, cycling, diving, rowing, and show-jumping. This picture was taken in the main stadium at Olympic Park on 7 August 2012, when – quite by chance – I sat next to a friend of mine, Victoria University geographer Richard Willis, whose son Nick was competing in the men’s 1,500 metres final. (Nick wasn’t a medallist that evening, but he won a silver medal in 2008 and a bronze medal in 2016 in the men’s 1,500 metres Olympic Games races.) |
