Climbing Black Mesa, Oklahoma
|
Black Mesa is in the extreme north-western corner of the Oklahoma panhandle. To get to Oklahoma, I drove diagonally south-west across Kansas from Topeka via Dodge City to Elkhart (which calls itself the “cornerstone of Kansas”). After entering Oklahoma just south of Elkhart, I continued driving south-west on US federal highway 56 as far as Boise City. The following day – on Thursday, 29 September 2016 – I drove on Oklahoma state highway 325 from Boise City to the outskirts of Kenton, where I turned north on a small road that leads to the Black Mesa Nature Preserve. |
