 Day 17 (Sunday, 10 October 2010) – Acebo to Ponferrada (16.5 kms): Ponferrada means Iron Bridge, and – with a population of about 70,000 – it was the largest city we went through after leaving León. Ponferrada was a Knights Templar stronghold in the 12th-century, and the knights built this amazing edifice, the Templars (los Templarios) castle. |
