 Day 23 (Saturday, 16 October 2010) – Portomarín to Palas de Rei (22.0 kms): A cross marking the site of a medieval pilgrims’ cemetery. In the middle ages many people put off confessing their sins till they were ill or old. Told to go on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela to qualify for a pardon for their sins, many not surprisingly died on their way to (or back from) Santiago. |
