Day 27 (Wednesday, 20 October 2010) – In Santiago de Compostela and Finisterre: An unusual feature of the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral is that visitors to the underground tomb of St James are able to come up behind the large statue of St James that forms a prominent part of the cathedral’s altar-piece and hug the statue or touch St James’ breast-plate – and they can, of course, be seen doing this by anyone inside the cathedral who is looking at the altar. |
