The Chatham Islands |
 History: Five Protestant missionaries from Berlin arrived in the Chatham, Islands in 1843. They had little success as missionaries, but in the late 1860s two of them, Johann Engst and Johann Baucke, built this stone cottage beneath a dramatic volcanic plug that’s a short distance inland from Maunganui beach on the north-west coast of Chatham Island. |
