Drakensberg mountains, April 1962



This is a two-shot photo-stitch of the view of the Drakensberg mountains from our basecamp. The peak near the left-hand edge of the picture is the Indumeni Dome (10,679 feet / 3,255 metres). The notch on the skyline directly above the goat that’s second from the left is Organ Pipes Pass, and the mountain above the black-faced goat is Cleft Peak (10,764 feet / 3,281 metres) – one of our goals for the trip. Above the copse of trees near the right-hand edge of the picture are the Inner and Outer Horns (9,862 feet / 3,006 metres, and 9,859 feet / 3,005 metres respectively), the Bell, and Cathedral Peak (9,856 feet / 3,004 metres).
