Drakensberg mountains, April 1962

A view looking north from the summit of Cleft Peak after the first golden glows of sunrise had turned to silvery light. In the foreground, above the mist in the right-hand half of the photo, are the Column (on the left) and the Pyramid (on the right); in the middle distance, Mitre is above the Column and the Inner Horn is above the Pyramid, while between those two peaks there’s a ragged series of summits known as the Chessmen.
