Drakensberg mountains, April 1962

All the members of our party were present when I took this photo just below the summit of Cleft Peak. Standing, from left to right, are Carel Menke, Tim Ferguson, Selwyn Miller (with the very large hood), Bill Moir (with the white balaclava), Geoffrey Read (holding his balaclava in his hands), and David Payne (wearing a leather jacket). Seated in the middle row, from left to right, are Pat Vickers, Jonathan Arthur, Pip Cooper (peering out from behind Jonathan Arthur), and Dutchie de Maar. From left to right in the front row are Gordon Martin, Dave Dodds (with his tripod in front of him), Roland Glatthaar, André le Roux, Peter Jankowitz, and – attending to their boots – Robert Thomson and Stuart Roberts. |
