During our drive along Trail Ridge road in the Rocky Mountain National Park, we stopped at Rock Cut and walked past Mushroom Rocks to a plane table on a nearby rocky knoll. This is a picture that Eric took of me pointing at the plane table's height – 12,304 feet (3,750 metres) above sea-level. That's almost exactly the same height as New Zealand's Mt Cook, which is a major alpine climb. In Colorado, by way of contrast, we reached the same altitude by simply strolling across a flower-filled meadow! |
