We gave a lot of our gear to an “outfitter”, who took all our heavy equipment, including my yellow-handled ice-axe and my crampons (which can be seen on the platform above my teal-blue pack in the lower right-hand corner of the picture), and – led by a wrangler – mules carried our gear roughly 13 miles / 21 kilometres to a spot near Island Lake, where we collected our equipment in the late afternoon and then carried it only a few hundred yards to the spot where we camped on our first night. |
