To get to Gannett Peak from the Elkhart Park trailhead, you hike north. The route is represented by the orange line on this map. On the first day – Saturday, 15 July 2006 – we walked about 13 miles / 21 kilometres from Elkhart Park, which is just off the bottom of the map, to a spot roughly half-a-mile past Island Lake (it’s marked with a faint “C1”, due right of the first “E” in the word WILDERNESS on the map). On 16 July we headed up the Titcomb valley and camped at the northern end of the Titcomb Basin at the place marked “C2”. On 17 July we climbed up to and camped on the top of Bonney Pass (see “C3” and “C4”). We stayed there for the nights prior to and after our summit attempt. On our return hike, we camped above Little Seneca Lake (i.e., at “C5”) on 19 July, and we walked back to Elkhart Park to complete the six-day / five-night trip on Thursday, 20 July. |
