Before driving to Salt Lake City the following day – i.e., on Saturday, 29 July 2006 – I accompanied the Spicers who went to watch the annual Rock Springs Rodeo parade through the centre of the town. As a political scientist, I was interested to see that many of the participants in the parade were candidates for office drawing attention to themselves and their campaigns – including the then Democratic Party Governor, Dave Freudenthal, and his wife, Nancy. At very least, their appearance in the rodeo parade didn’t hurt: Governor Freudenthal was re-elected a little more than three months later. |
