 Also in the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center is this exquisite sunka wakan ipani – a Native American horse stick sculpture. It was probably carved sometime around 1876, possibly to honour a horse killed in battle. It has become a South Dakota icon, so much so that it serves as the symbol of the Cultural Heritage Center.
