First attempt: While Eric and Roger were ascending the mountain, I was slowly going down. I slipped twice on the icy snow; on one occasion my foot slammed into a rock so severely that I thought I'd broken a toe, and that made my progress even slower! At 6:00 am I took this picture of four climbers sandwiched between two Timberline guides heading up towards the Hog's Back. Mt Jefferson (10,497 feet / 3,199 metres) – another of the volcanoes in the Cascade Range and the second highest mountain in Oregon – is visible near the top right-hand corner of the picture. |
