Climbing Mt Hood

After flying round Mt Hood, we headed north. Flights over Mt St Helens (which is in the state of Washington) are forbidden, but Terry was able to fly us round the mountain. Before the May 1980 eruption, Mt St Helens was 9,677 feet / 2,950 metres high, but the summit is now only 8,365 feet / 2,550 metres above sea-level. The eruption has been called "the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in the history of the United States."
