Consequently, Eric and I beat a small retreat down the southern side of the summit, into a breeze which blew the smell and the flies away from us, where we stopped for a rest, food and drink. When I removed my daypack, I discovered I had a high-level hitchhiker – this butterfly or moth – clinging to the straps of my pack. It had reached the summit of Humphreys Peak the easy way!
