Climbing Mt Katahdin

As I made my way up towards the summit, several groups of hikers were descending. It was easy to tell that the man in the centre of the picture, as well as a couple of the men on the skyline, had just completed the 2,180 mile / 3,508 kilometre Appalachian Trail: they had thick beards, were exceptionally fit, and had a distinctive body-odour! Most of the Appalachian Trail “through-hikers” I spoke to had left Georgia in March or early April.
