Climbing Kings Peak

Nigel Roberts at the top of Kings Peak, Utah. It was the eighth US state highpoint I'd climbed – the other seven being Denali/Mt McKinley (Alaska, 1997), Eagle Mountain (Minnesota, 2004), Gannet Peak (Wyoming, 2006), Granite Peak (Montana, 2006), Mt Rainier (Washington, 2007), Mt Elbert (Colorado, 2009), and Mt Hood (Oregon, 2009). Kings Peak was also the seventh of the 13 peaks I hope to climb that together constitute the ten highest and ten hardest of the US state highpoints. Not only were Eric and I the first people to reach the summit of Kings Peak on Tuesday, 31 August 2010, but it's also likely we were the only people to have climbed the mountain that day. We had the entire High Uintas Wilderness almost to ourselves. How privileged can you be?
