Friday, 11 October 1991 – From Phakding to Namche Bazar: Two hours after leaving Phakding, we reached the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park. Sagarmatha is the Nepali name for Mt Everest, and this photograph was taken of me standing at the entrance alongside Rinzing (one of our two assistant Sherpas). The entry fee, incidentally, was 250 rupees – slightly less than $US8 – per person. |
