 Friday, 11 October 1991 – From Phakding to Namche Bazar: The sign says it all: “Welcome to Sagarmatha National Park”. Despite being the home of the world’s highest mountain, the Sagarmatha National Park is not particularly large. It’s smaller than New Zealand’s Rakiura National Park (which is in Stewart Island / Rakiura) and is only slightly bigger than the Arthur’s Pass National Park. An Australian comparison is also revealing: Tasmania’s Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park is roughly 25 per cent larger than the Sagarmatha National Park. |
