 Tuesday, 29 October 1991 – From Namche Bazar to Lukla: We arrived in Lukla at 3:40 pm and checked into the Hotel Sagarmatha, where – according to the sign hanging above the second floor windows – we were welcomed “heartly”. The sign above the entrance claims that Lukla is 2,804 metres above sea-level, but most sources I’ve consulted say that Lukla is situated at an altitude of 2,860 metres.
