Climbing Mauna Kea



This was the first view we had – or, more accurately, didn’t have – of Mauna Kea when Eric and I flew into Kona airport on Sunday morning, 2 February 2014. Thick clouds covered the mountain. The West Hawaii Today newspaper reported that rainfall had been “above average” in West Hawaii in January, and that “the wet weather [had] also brought heavy snow to the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.”
