Climbing Mauna Kea



A picture taken by Eric of me hiking across the barren landscape. The steel fence post near the centre of the photo is one of the poles used to mark most of the route. The poles were both rather far apart (“every 500 feet or so” according to one route description) and, as can be seen from this photo, very much the same colour as the landscape. I wouldn’t want to have to rely on them for route-finding in thick fog.
