This photograph of a portion of a New Zealand Department of Conservation (DoC) pamphlet shows that the Milford Track is in the Fiordland National Park, which is in the south-western corner of the South Island of New Zealand. On 4 April 1996, David Novitz and I flew from Christchurch to Queenstown and then on to Te Anau. Later that same day, we went by bus and by boat to the start of the Milford Track at the northern tip of Lake Te Anau and began our three-night, four-day hike along the track to Milford Sound. |
