 After landing at the Te Anau / Manapouri airport, we caught a taxi into Te Anau and checked in at the Fiordland National Park’s visitor centre, where David took this picture of me and a large toy takahe – a bird that was thought to have been extinct until it was rediscovered in 1948 in the Murchison mountains on the other (i.e., on the western) side of Lake Te Anau. |
