An attempt on Mt Marcy, NY
|
… the last time I’d worn crampons was almost exactly two years earlier. On 23 October 2014, I slid on ice on Mt Ruapehu (the tallest mountain in the North Island of New Zealand), self-arrested (to stop myself falling over a small ice-cliff), but – in doing so – broke both the tibia and fibula in my right leg. As a result, I was especially determined not to injure myself on Mt Marcy. (Photo by Simon Bignold.) |
