An attempt on Mt Marcy, New York

On 28 October 2016, I made a solo attempt to climb Mt Marcy, the highest mountain in the state of New York. The summit is 5,344 feet / 1,629 metres above sea-level, and it’s the 21st highest of the fifty US state highpoints. Roughly a quarter of a mile (or 400 metres) short of the summit, thick snow and poor visibility led me to turn round and head back down the mountain. Nevertheless, I had a beautiful, challenging and highly enjoyable hike, and I look forward to returning to New York to climb the peak in better conditions.
