 The North Carolina state flag is a favourite of mine because it’s the only flag I know that features my birthday (April 12th)! The two dates in the vertical blue band on North Carolina’s state flag have been described as an attempt to “place North Carolina at the forefront of the American independence movement”: on April 12, 1776, North Carolina adopted the Halifax Resolves that favoured independence from Britain; similarly, the earlier date on the state flag – May 20, 1775 – is when the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence was supposedly signed. |
