Climbing Mt Mitchell, North Carolina |
On 29 October 2015, I hiked to the summit of Mt Mitchell, which is not only the highest peak in North Carolina, but is also the highest mountain in the United States east of the Mississippi River. Mt Mitchell’s summit is 6,684 feet / 2,037 metres above sea-level, and it’s the 16th highest of the fifty US state highpoints. Mt Mitchell was the 33rd US state highpoint I had climbed or visited. |
