Several members of an RMI guided party that had stopped at High Break were unable to continue. One of the party’s two guides had turned back earlier with a couple of people unable to cope with the climb, and the sole remaining guide now had to do likewise. This meant that the only two people in his guided group able to continue would have to turn round too … unless Melissa could add them to our rope. I thought that this would be okay, but Eric was strongly opposed to it, arguing that we’d contracted RMI to do a three-person climb and adding other climbers of unknown abilities to our rope could well hinder our chances of success. Faced with what was, in effect, a split vote by Eric and me, Melissa said yes – and two new climbers joined our rope. |
